Natalie Portman in Givenchy

As mentioned in the last post, the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards was held yesterday, and another lovely and incredible actress who attended was Natalie Portman. She wore a gorgeous yellow and beige piece from the Givenchy Haute Couture collection, which showed off her beautiful stomach. Together with it she wore Stella McCartney heels and jewelry by Cartier. I really hope, and think, that she will win the award as best actress at the Oscars tonight. She really deserves to have this moment.

PFW A/W 2011: Givenchy Look 42

Dark, elegant silhouettes inspired by panthers, was the theme Riccardo Tisci went for with his A/W 2011 collection for Givenchy. Fitted pencil skirts and looser jackets and jumpers took over the runway. The looks were mostly black with prints in green, purple and yellow, and here and there a print of a panther's head showed up.

Amongst all the dark, it seemed as if Tisci wanted to add a radiant light of sunshine. An all yellow look; an element of surprise which shows that you do not have to leave the shocking bright colours behind when entering the autumn and winter season. I think I have to say that this is my favourite look from the collection, though the full A/W 2011 collection was brilliant.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture S/S 2011

Cate Blanchett in a haute couture gown by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy was one of the best matches of the evening. Back in late January, I fell head over heels in love with this couture collection as the detailing is absolutely exquisite. This "Tao" dress was one of my favourites. The reason why is because of the lavender and yellow teamed together (such a fresh and exciting combination!) and the contrast between the tough and bold shoulders and the delicate details and fabric.

Alongside my immense hope of seeing an Elie Saab gown last night, I was also hoping to see some Givenchy couture. And I am so happy that Cate was the one to make the bold fashion statement as she is the perfect woman for such dresses. She really lifted the level of fashion last night, and I adore her so much doing that.

Givenchy Haute Couture Spring 2011

I feel like no words can give the Givenchy Haute Couture Spring '11 collection any justice. The pieces are beyond incredible, with the exquisite detailing and the elegant symmetry created by the master and fashion genius, Ricardo Tisci. His inspiration for the couture collection is based on a concert held by Antony and the Johnsons as a tribute for the deceased japanese dancer Kazuo Ohno. Tisci told style.com that Ohno became a kind of muse for him. "Ohno provided the romance, the melancholy, and the palette (the colour of dried flowers)".

Together with this japanese elegance and softness, Tisci has worked in the elements that many of us links with Japan: electronics, and especially robots. The headpieces and the shoes are proof of this. This combination of new and old, hard and soft fascinates me deeply. Ricardo Tisci really is an amazingly talented designer.

Rene Gruau Illustrated

I can't remember how many times I've come across Italian born Rene Gruau's iconic fashion illustrations without giving due pause to recognize the enormity of his influence on fashion and commercial design. Best known for his marketing images for Miss Dior perfume and the House of Dior, Gruau worked for a dazzling list of couturiers and magazines including Balmain, Schiaparelli, Balenciaga,Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar. I loved what he did with ink, and the quality and spirit of the colors he chose. Gruau's graphic love affair with fashion spanned over 50 years and his images aren't going anywhere!
